Wednesday, July 22: Ali is a swimmin’-frickin-machine!

“Hi Crew, this is Shannon McPhail reporting from Courier Creek.
We’re a day ahead of schedule because Ali is a swimmin’-frickin-machine!
We went through some of the craziest boulder gardens, the water was insane, the raft guides were absolutely tuckered, but the raft got left in Ali’s dust! We could not keep up with her, she is so fast and so strong.
She was getting beat up really bad on the boulders today — she’s got a few bumps and bruises but she keeps a smile on her face, we don’t know how.
The rest of the crew is absolutely pooped out. And she gets out of the water, she’s pitching the tent, she’s cookin’ dinner, she’s blowin the rest of us away. And pickin wild strawberries!
It was such a fantastic day. We stopped at a crystal mine. It was absolutely beautiful, sunny day on the river. She swam a double day today so we’re an entire day ahead of schedule.
And we saw our first Chinook today! heading up to the Sacred Headwaters to spawn! And …it’s just an awesome, awesome day.
So, we’re all tuckered, but it’s pretty shameful that none of us are as energetic as Ali is right now.

Salut la compagnie, c’est Shanon McPhail qui vous envoie son rapport depuis Courier Creek.
On a gagné une journée d’avance parce que Ali est une infernale machine à nager!
On est passé par des labyrinthe de rochers, l’eau était dingue, les guides de rafting étaient complètement usès mais le raft s’est fait distancè par Ali. On ne pouvait pas soutenir son rythme, elle est tellement rapide et forte.
Elle s’est fait salement frappé par les rochers aujourd’hui – elle a pris quelques bosses et des bleus mais le sourire ne quitte pas son visage, on ne sait pas comment elle fait
Le reste de l’equipe est complètement grillé. Puis elle sort de l’eau, elle installe sa tente, elle fait cuire le repas, elle nous épate. Et elle ramasse des fraises des bois!
C’était tellement une journée incroyable. Nous nous sommes arrètés à une mine de crystal. C’était absolument merveilleux, une journée de soleil sur la rivière. Elle a nagé une double journée aujourd’hui, donc a une journée compléte d’avance sur le programme.
On a vu notre premier saumon Chinook! En route pour les sources sacrées pour aller pondre! C’était vraiment une superbe, superbe journée.
On est tous abattus mais c’est vraiment honteux qu’aucun d’entre nous ai encore l’énergie qu’ Ali a en ce moment

Salut la compagnie, c’est Chris qui appelle de la confluence des rivières Sustut et Skeena.
Notre camp est, comme vous vous en douteriez, spectaculaire. Nous avons une vue sur la chaine de montagne Slamgeesh et la Skeena est très bruyante en aval de là ou nous sommes.
Pas de doute, qu’il y aura de l’action demain. Ali continue à bien nager et s’est bien debrouillée pour la section entre la rivière Mosque jusqu’à notre camp, ici, à cote de la Sustut.
Ali va affronter son plus grand déi demain, quand elle s’engagera dans de l’eau vive impressionante.
L’équipe reste solide et perspicace et l’objectif de l’océan se rapproche à chaque coup de pagaie.

Big Energy and Big Smiles! Way to go Ali. It looks like you have the whole “enjoy the journey” part down! Mmmm wild strawberries.

Im pretty excited that this means that Aurora will possibly get to see her Dad sooner too.. YEAH!
