An environmental group, a cultural swat team, recycling stewardship agencies and a cohort of schools are all partnering together to bring the Skeena Up Your Watershed! tour to northern communities in celebration of watershed stewardship.
The Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition (SWCC) promotes education about the Skeena watershed. The Artist Response Team (ART) produces entertainment that educates about ecology. Encorp Pacific oversees the recycling of beverage containers in British Columbia. E-Toy Recycling is leading the first program in North America to recycle electronic toys.
Over 700 student singers (the Voices Of Nature) from eight schools in four towns will be performing with Holly Arntzen and Kevin Wright:
• Prince Rupert: Lax'Kxeen & Port Edwards schools;
• Terrace: Veritas school;
• Hazelton: John Field, New Hazelton and Kispiox schools;
• Smithers: Lake Kathlyn and Telkwa schools.
The concerts feature ART's original songs, and the titles tell the story:
• Landfill Blues--reducing waste and recycling;
• Mr. Douglas--the history of civilization through the eyes of an old-growth Douglas Fir tree;
• Up Your Watershed!--sockeye salmon, watersheds and the open ocean;
• Big Change Starts Small--composting, make soil not war!
• I Am The Future--kids, the decision-makers of tomorrow, speaking to their elders, the decision-makers of today;
• Voices Of Nature--singing out for those that don't have a voice.
