Description:

The Skeena Watershed Conservation Coalition is planning an exciting event this summer, which we are bringing to the community’s attention. Ali Howard, a resident of Telkwa, will attempt to swim the entire length of the Skeena River, from the headwaters to the mouth. She will have a well-organized safety team with her, including two support rafts and a rescue kayaker alongside her at all times. There will also be a professional film crew along to document this extraordinary undertaking and create a film about it.
The purpose of the expedition is to raise awareness of the importance of a healthy watershed for all the communities in the Skeena system by tracing the migratory route of wild salmon. Ali’s journey will highlight the connectedness of all the communities along the Skeena, creating a positive watershed event that celebrates our river, our salmon and our culture.

Ali will be visiting schools from Houston to Prince Rupert between April 27 and May 8 to talk about her swim and to invite youth to get involved. Her presentation will take approximately half an hour, and will include a short film and time for questions from students.

Below are the dates of Ali’s school visits:
