10,000 Paper Salmon - IN PROGRESS
In November and December of 2009, every elementary and highschool student in the entire northwest corner of BC decorated a paper salmon. From Houston all the way over the Prince Rupert, Nisga’a and Kitimat and extending all the way up North to Stewart, Iskut, Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek! Each little paper salmon is about 8” in length and will be compiled into a giant piece of art! It’s incredibly exciting and we were blown away by the response we got from all the schools. More than 12,000 students are participating across and beyond the Skeena, Nass & Stikine watersheds! This project is a joint effort with the Misty Rivers Art Council in Hazelton and SWCC. We grateful that we get to work with such a dynamic group of artists.
It’s going to be a MASSIVE project – but like all SWCC ideas – we will make it HAPPEN!
We have moved 3 proposals from local artists for the final selection process. We will make the decision on February 4th – stay tuned.
What are we going do with 10,000 paper salmon? It’s a SECRET!!! Don’t worry – we will be sure to put the word out BIG TIME when this artistic masterpiece is all finished!
Would you like to help work on this project? We NEED volunteers and we’re HIRING an artist to head this project up! If you have an idea – we would love to hear it.
