SWCC Volunteer teams
Youth on Water and Women on Water Team: Youth on Water and Women on Water are annual programs which empower youth and ladies of our community through on-the-water activities. Find out more about these awesome programs here.
Event and Fundraising Team: At SWCC we love hosting events and when we do it’s all hands on deck! Tasks could be anything from stuffing envelopes, making buttons, decorating a hall or setting up for a presentation.
Expedition and Fieldwork Team: Trail scouts needed to find, trim and map trail systems in the region.
Research Team: Research assistants to come on expeditions to act as research helpers. Lots of hiking, rafting and outdoor work.
Crafty and Creative Team: If you have artistic skills, or just love making stuff, we would love to hear from you. At SWCC we love using art as a way to get our message out. So whether it’s film, painting, photography or dance. We want to hear from you!
Handy Types Team: We’ve just expanded our office and need people to help us get it into ship shape. This includes building shelves, decorating, finding bookshelves and other furniture, setting up a coffee station and generally making SWCC’s headquarters more cosy.
The Tech Team: Are you super tech savvy? Can you design websites, write web code, manage a website and social media networks? You can do this from anywhere, all you need is a computer, though we’d love it if you were here with us in Hazelton to hang out!
Of course if you have any other skills or services you are able to provide on a voluntary basis, or ideas about an event or something that you think needs to happen in our communities – let us know!
So you've established that you have mad skills, you have decided on a team, now meet Cynthia!
Cynthia McCreery is our wonderful Northern Organizer. Cynthia will not only be working hard to bring to you more kickass events and activities this year, she is also going to be looking after all you lovely volunteers.
“I first worked for SWCC in 2009 to curate the "Spirit of the River" art exhibit. It was fun and exciting and perfectly in line with my values. I was raised a vegetarian in a logging family in Hazelton so you could say that I’m a perfect mix of hippy and redneck and maybe that’s why I love SWCC! My son is part Gitxsan and this has created an even stronger connection with this place and the need to look after it.
My first experience with SWCC was as a volunteer. Whether it was a film night, a fundraising dance or River day, I always found it was so much fun to be involved. Here at SWCC we are at the cutting edge of making things happen and standing up for the place we love. You can be a part of this exciting organization in so many ways. You, the volunteer, are the life of SWCC and we want you to feel like a part of our team. Call me to chat about the many ways we utilize and appreciate our volunteers. I can't wait to meet you!" - Cynthia
